I believe to some
degree the information we collected for our From Hot to Not project was helpful. We were able to find out what type
of people liked what type of things. But by a business standard it would not be
very helpful because it is easy for someone to just say they like something with
no intention of buying it. The business wants to know why the consumer likes this
based on their psychographics and demographics and use the statistics to create
products that they like. Not just assume because they clicked yes to buying the
new type of pant, that they will actually go out and buy it. We did not find out
why they would by the product which would not be helpful in the future when trying
to figure out next season what they would like. It would be much harder to accomplish
this however because it was only a school project and not our full time jobs. But for the project, we learned a lot.

Unit 2 Assignement 3
Gabrielle “Coco ” Bonheur Chanel was born on August 19th 1883 in Saumur , France . She lived in an orphanage for
a lot of her life, after her mother died, which is were she began to sew. In
1913 she opened her first boutique that sold deluxe casual clothes for leisure
and sport. As early as 1915, people and the media were already raving over her
designs. This allowed her to open another boutique in 1918. Her fashion
motivator category would be Designer because she designed a whole new era of
clothing for women and released them from their binding corsets. Chanel
popularized and invents things such as the little black dress, the Chanel tweed
pantsuit, costume jewellery, two toned shoes, and no. 5 perfume.

Chanel is an example of the trickle down
theory. She was at the top of the design world and sent all of her ideas and
designs to the public, which they adored. It was such a great and new concept
that people didn't even make that many knock offs because it was so different.
Later on when it was a huge success people made their own versions of course. I would wear some of the clothing, the suits are for more mature people, but the bags, the shoes, the jewellery, the LBD (little black dress) are already staples in my closet.
Gabrielle Chanel invented the modern woman. She created a woman that didn't need to be assisted to walk by a man as she struggled in her yards of fabric, she didn't need a maid to help do up her hundred ring corset. Hem lines were shortened, and the body was free'd from the binding clothing.

Gabrielle Chanel was defiantly a fashion innovator. She invented a whole new style of dressing that we still use to this day. She took our whole idea of fashion and made it into something new, and everyone loved it. She truly was thee fashion innovator. I do not think she should be in the fashion motivators list because, yes she did motivate a whole fashion movement, but she did more then that, she created it. The media has popularized this trend by simply just reporting on it. The people did the rest by falling in love with it. For example, just two years after her first boutique opened up Harper's Bazaar a fashion magazine was raving over her designs "“The woman who hasn't at least one Chanel is hopelessly out of fashion...This season the name Chanel is on the lips of every buyer.”

Unit 2 Assignment 2
The classic clothing I have seen within my peer
group of seventeen to twenty four year olds is skinny jeans, moccasins, large
sweaters (Hoodie or chunky knit) and brand name shirts. Within the age group of
seventeen to twenty four year olds the two main fads I am seeing are high low
dresses and skirts and Toms, a type of boat shoe. The trends I am seeing
evolving within the seventeen to twenty four year old age group is a lot of
girly and vintage looks. Things like fitted silhouettes, pastel colors and
floral patterns are worn. On the opposite side of fashion the grunge look is
very popular with slouchy clothing, darker colors like burgundy and navy blue
and chunky accessories. Accessories are bold, and expressive, people are using
them to the fullest advantage to create unique yet simple looks. Combat boots,
cross body bags, statement jewellery and feather hair pieces are seen on the
streets. A whole array of color is now visible, from pastels to darks, with all
the bights in between. A predominant garment I am seeing is high waist shorts
and the silhouette of a thin but curvy girl. The classic clothing has been
popularized by certain bands and TV celebrities, the fads are from fashion
blogs on the internet. I believe the inspiration for the fashion trends has
come from the internet, the popular spread of the website Tumblr, and lots of
celebrities and models have begun to dress like this. The classics will probably
stay for another few years; having only few go on for perhaps a decade longer,
while the fads will probably die out within the next year or two. The next
things I would popularize are heeled combat boots, chunky knit scarves, draping
cardigans and lots of cool prints with pops of color.

Haute Couture: Haute Couture has more defined silhouettes, the design is much more detailed and intricate, the fabrics are more luxurious and expensive. The production takes a long time as so much hand work is involved, prices are in the thousands to tens of thousands.
RTW: ready to wear has less defined silhouettes, the designs are used to create more then one piece ( a skirt and dress might look very similar). The fabrics are mower versatile and not as delicate and luxurious. The production is not as complicated as the pieces need to be made more then once. The price is in the hundred to low thousands.
How Haute Couture Influences Ready-to-Wear: Haute Couture influenced ready to wear by defining the silhouettes that are in style, maybe a very boxy shape or a curvaceous figure. It can inspire the way garments are created by the use of their embellishments and structure.
Differences between Haute Couture and Ready-to-Wear: The different between Haute Couture and RTW is the effort that goes into it. A haute couture line usually has around 20 pieces while a RTW line can have up to 100. It takes much longer to create each piece of Haute Couture than ready to wear as most of it is hand embroidered or sewn. Ready to Wear is able to be taken off the runway and put into a wearable day outfit (hence the name) but Haute Coutur could only be worn to a very specials event like the a Grammies or if you were a bride. The look is more sophisticated, and delicate than RTW.
How to make the Haute Couture every day wearable: Haute Couture can not be made to be worn everyday as taking a masterpiece like that and toning it down would be disgraceful. However it can easily inspire a day wear outfit. Take for example the Chanel Couture 2012 line, that piece can inspire a day outfit by taking the flower embellishments and putting it in a tee shirt, then using the flowing fabric to create a matching skirt and there you go, a day wear outfit inspire by couture.

Unit 1 Assignment 2
If I were allowed to choose from the pile of books which will be published one hundred years after my death, do you know which one I would take? . . . I would simply take a fashion magazine so that I could see how women dress one century after my departure. And these rags would tell me more about the humanity of the future than all the philosophers, prophets, and scholars.

Step 3: The discussion
I think her quote is somewhat true, fashion expresses how people are feeling which in turn shows how (a part of) the world is doing. Currently from this magazine we can tell people are taking bolder more unique risks in fashion as people are finding it harder to stand out. Styles are becoming a bit more darker as that is the way the media (tv, movies) are turning to capture more attention of the views. However, fashion captures only a small portion of the worlds view as only a small part of the population finds fashion to be of an importance. You'd never know about the economic crisis in Greece from reading Vogue.

My Favorite Outfit.
My favorite outfit is my tan rope wedges, my black floral skirt, and a yellow chiffon blouse. I usually wear this outfit with my favorite red sun hat. I bought this outfit for myself because each piece stood out to me. The wedges are from Aldo, the skirt is from urban behavior, the chiffon was from a modeling and shopping convention and the hat believe it or not was from the dollar store. I wear this outfit in the summer, it can be worn in the fall or spring with the right accessories like a cardigan and tights. I wore this outfit to my modeling class and I found it appropriate because modeling is about expressing yourself and standing out, which is exactly what this outfit does. I love this outfit because it expresses so much of myself. The bright colors, the bold but minimal accessories, and the mixing of colors and prints which allows me to show off my sense of risky fun fashion style. I feel like this is a good outfit for a teenager to wear but beyond my twenties I feel it would be a bit inappropriate to wear. I will probably keep all these pieces as I wear them frequently and cherish them.
Individual influencing factors:
My choice of dress is bright colors, bold patterns, and most of the time, both. My outfit reflects my knowledge of fashion because it has minimal pieces (2+2 accessories) yet makes a big statement because. I have intelligently put together two things that would not usually be together because I have a knowledge of color and a desire to take risks. This outfit helps me stand out because I have never seen someone (especially in this area) wear such a bold expression of clothing. The bright colors and fun florals show I am a bright and fun person. It is an interesting outfit which makes people think I would be interesting. My attitude towards fashion is that it is a personal expression of who you are and has to be unique and show off your individuality, which I feel I have achieve through this outfit.
Cultural influencing factors:
My cultural values are based on a modern canadian standard which is pretty much no butts, boobs, belly's or backs. I have followed this rule in my outfit. It does not represent any cultural traditions, because it is based on my personal values. My outfit was based on my style and not that of a movie or rock star.
